An afternoon in New Glarus

September 10, 2023 @ 11:30 am 3:30 pm

$10.00 admission at Historical Swiss Village

Ages:

Autistic Adults (18+)

Join us to admire the distinct Swiss Chalet architecture the town is famous for.
We will meet in front of the Glarner Stube, 518 1st St, New Glarus WI at 11:30 a.m. Mark Huntsman will lead us on a walk through downtown New Glarus.

We will then split into groups for lunch, as different people may be interested in different restaurants (one option includes traditional Swiss food, the specialty of the town). After lunch, you can choose to explore Family Fest in the park or seek out the artistic ceramic cows found on streets around town.

At 2 p.m., we will gather at the Historical Swiss Village for a tour.
ADDRESS: 612 7th Ave, New Glarus, WI 53574
COST: $10 per person, you will pay when you get there.

Here is a little more info about the Historical Swiss Village from their website:

“Immerse Yourself in Immigrant History at Our Detailed Replica of an 1850 Swiss Settlement
Get a glimpse of Swiss pioneer life while exploring each of our 14 artifact-filled Swiss Historical Village buildings, including a settler’s cabin, collectibles shop, school, blacksmith, farm implement, bee house, church, and more. Each building – some replicas, some incredible original structures – has rich layers of period furnishings, tools, implements, books, and textiles once used in everyday Swiss settlement life. You will leave the Swiss Historical Village with a complete understanding of how these brave immigrants lived and worked.”

PLEASE NOTE:
There is a festival going on in New Glarus on this day. Parking may be difficult.
There will potentially be a lot of people in town and a lot going on. If crowds are difficult for you, you may want to skip the first part of the day and join us at 2:00 for the tour of the Historical Swiss Village.
