Wisconsin Virtual Academy is dedicated to providing K–12 students an enriching learning experience tailored to their needs. Wisconsin-licensed teachers develop Individualized Learning Plans for each student to target their academic strengths and weaknesses. An engaging, highly interactive curriculum challenges students with courses in core subjects, art, music, world languages, electives, and AP®. Students have multiple opportunities to connect through in-person social outings, online clubs, prom, National Honor Society, student council, and more.

Description of Services

Wisconsin Virtual Academy (WIVA) follows federal and state guidelines in regard to providing a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) to students eligible for special education services under the supervision of the school’s Special Education Department.  The state special education manual serves as a basis for policies and procedures for the Special Education Department.WIVA’s Special Education Department is led by the Special Education Manager and supported by the K12 Regional and National Special Programs Managers.As WIVA is a virtual learning environment, special educational services and support are provided through online meeting rooms, phone meetings, and electronic communications.  This environment requires constant communication from not only teachers and staff at the school but also from parents, students, and designated learning coaches in order for this educational experience to be successful.WIVA takes and necessary by the child’s IEP team, to provide nonacademic and extracurricular services and activities in the manner necessary to afford children with disabilities an equal opportunity for participation in those services and activities as provided to students without disabilities.  Nonacademic and extracurricular services and activities include counseling services, athletics, transportation, health services, recreational activities, special interest groups or clubs sponsored by the school district, referrals to agencies that provide assistance to individuals with disabilities and employment of students, including both employment by the school district and assistance in making outside employment available.
