Safety on The Spectrum™: Law Enforcement Training

The Autism Society of South Central Wisconsin’s Safety on the Spectrum™ training program equips law enforcement officers with essential knowledge and strategies to foster safe, respectful, and effective interactions with individuals on the Autism spectrum. This program is designed to build understanding, reduce misunderstandings, and strengthen trust between law enforcement and the Autism community.

Participants will gain techniques and strategies for effectively managing situations involving individuals with Autism and intellectual developmental disabilities, along with an understanding of common characteristics such as communication differences and and sensory needs. This training provides tools to prevent unsafe assumptions, promote positive interactions, and enhance communication skills for effective de-escalation. By the end, participants will have a deeper understanding of Autism and its impact on behavior, as well as practical strategies for promoting safety, positive outcomes, and respectful engagement in every interaction.
