Winter Nature Hike and Bonfire at Aldo Leopold Nature Center
January 26 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Ages
Families with childrenLet’s explore the beauty of nature during the winter!
Families are invited to participate in a guided nature hike at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center. If there is snow, participants will be offered snowshoes for the hike, if there is not enough snow, participants will be walking the trails. We will end with a bonfire, hot cocoa, and s’mores!
10-11 AM: Hike or Snowshoe (weather dependent)
11-11:30 AM: Bonfire, Hot Cocoa, and Socialization
This event is a FREE event for Families. Snowshoes will be given to kids ages 3-18. ALNC does not have snowshoes for children younger than 3 years old. Adult snowshoe sizes are limited, you are welcome to bring your own along!
A reminder to dress for the weather and expect to be outdoors for up to 1.5 hours. This means bringing everything you may need to be warm, comfortable and dry (winter coat, hat, scarf, gloves/mittens, warm/waterproof boots, snowpants, etc.). Dressing in layers is recommended as the morning may start out cold, but you may warm up as we begin to snowshoe.
From 10 am – 11 am:
ALNC Environmental Educators will briefly discuss the history and purpose of snowshoes. Then, the ALNC Environmental Educators will show us how to put them on and assist with fitting. After that, they will take us on a snowshoe hike around the grounds to get comfortable walking in snowshoes while we make observations about the nature around us. In case of no snow, we will take a regular hike with alternative activities during the hike such as a scavenger hunt.
From 11 am – 11:30 am:
We will have a bonfire for participants to chat around and have refreshments.
Please RSVP below by January 23rd. For this event only, just RSVP for the children who will be attending.
By registering for this event, you will receive the Autism Society of South Central Wisconsin email newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time.
